Westport Skatepark Preliminary Concept

The Westport Skatepark and Pump Track is gaining momentum and construction may begin as early as July. The project, spearheaded by Darcia Davis in 2019, has gained community support and was fully funded in 2023 via private donations and a matching grant awarded by the Washington Recreation Coalition.

The skatepark will cater to a diverse range of outdoor sports enthusiasts, including skateboarders, scooter riders, bikers, and rollerbladers. Situated in Druzianich Park adjacent to the Westport Timberland Library, the location offers accessibility, visibility, and convenience for residents and visitors alike.

To ensure environmental compliance and cultural preservation, the site is currently undergoing assessments such as a Cultural Resource Survey and a Wetland Delineation. Once these evaluations are complete and regulatory requirements are met, construction can proceed.

The city has put out a Request for Proposals (RFPs), and multiple skateboard construction companies are expected to bid for the opportunity to build the park. A selection committee will convene in April to evaluate the submissions and determine the most suitable candidate for the project.

A Seattle-based company, Grindline, initially collaborated with Davis to develop a preliminary concept for the park. Their involvement not only facilitated the grant application process but also provided the community with a tangible vision of the park's potential.

Davis anticipates breaking ground on the project by the 4th of July, coinciding with a community event aimed at promoting the skatepark and providing updates on its timeline for completion. The event will include raffles featuring donated goods and raise more community awareness about the park. The ultimate goal is to have the park ready for use by late summer or early fall, offering a new recreational outlet for residents and visitors to enjoy.
